Spa

My neck and back were really stiff today so I had Tycen massage my back.  To have him be effective, I had him kneel on my back and move his knees around, which was working quite well.  He would stop after a short time, and I would ask him not to stop just yet.  After a couple times of that he said, "Dude, I'm not a spa!"

Sleep Talking

Even though Paul can't talk yet, he can make Lisa say some funny things!  He keeps us up so much in the night that we're both really worn out.  I went to kiss Lisa goodbye this morning before I left for work, and she said something to me that I asked her to repeat because I thought I heard her wrong.  Nope, I heard correctly!  She said, "You can go to Fred Meyer to get the tennis balls."

Black and Blue

I was standing at the counter and Tycen decided to start using my backside as a punching bag.  He was really putting a lot into it and lisa told him he would make me black and blue.  He laughed and said, "I know, he sores my butt!"

Be Happy

The kids were asking what the vinyl on our wall said, and Lisa was describing it to them.  "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass... it's learning to dance in the rain."  She told them that life would have hard times, but we still need to be happy even when life is rough.  Kayla said, "So if you're having a heart attack, you need to be happy about it!"

Who Stinks?

We were in the car and I started to smell something unpleasant.  I asked Lance if he needed a diaper change and he said no.  I asked the other kids if they were the stinky ones, and Garrett said, "I said excuse me when I tooted."

Waiting Is Useless

We were waiting in the parking lot to get the H1N1 flu shot and it was pouring down rain.  After a little bit, Garrett said, "I guess we have to drive away from this place.  It's no use."

Whinnie the Who?

Tycen was asking how Whinnie the Pooh got his name.  He said, "Was someone drinking alcohol and then named him with a bad word in his name?"

Wake Up Call

While my parents were here when Lisa was still in the hospital from having Paul (Oct. 1st - 4th) Lance got up early in the morning and went around to the side of the bed where my dad was sleeping.  He would get by his face and then say "Ock-a-doodoe-do!"

The One

I was looking for something today, and when I found it, Kayla said "that's the one!"  I jokingly said " no, you're the one!"  Kayla then said, "no, rubber ducky is the one!"

I'm Confused!

Garrett came to Lisa and said, "I'm confused!"  When Lisa asked what he was confused about, he said, "I have on my batman shirt and spiderman sunglasses, so you can't tell who I am!  I'm confused!"

Driver's Ed

It's good practice with the wheel, but we'll have to work on the pedals!

Oh great!

Kayla was in the shopping cart at Costco, and as the kids like to do occationally, she stayed in the cart as it was wheeled past the register by the employees at checkout.  The guy at the register was scanning the items on the belt, and started talking to Kayla.  She was being very shy and quiet, and he asked if he should scan her since she was in the cart.  He held the scanner out closer to her and she pulled away and shook her head.  He said, "it doesn't hurt, see" as he scanned his arm.  The shy, quiet little Kayla all of the sudden blurted out, "Oh great!  Now we have to buy you!"

What Does a Pig Say?

This is Lance at 21 months doing animal sounds.

Kayla's Circus

Whenever Kayla sees anything that resembles a huge yard, even if it's only a field out the car window, she'll say "Oh man, wouldn't that be so cool if that was our yard!?  When we move and have a big yard like that, we can have a circus!  We'll dress daddy up like a clown, and I get to put the makup on him!"

Hide & Seek

Lance loves to play games with the other kids, chasing each other around or wrestling with (more like falling on) them.  He watches what they do when they are playing, and copies them.  When they are playing Hide and Seek, he'll stand with whoever is counting, and he'll try counting with them, and then follows them during the seeking.  He started counting like that quite often now even when they're not playing.  Just sitting in the car, on the couch, in bed, whenever he feels like it, he'll say in his little, almost 2 year old speach, "One, Two, Three, Nine, Eighteen, Eighteen, ready or not, here I come!"

Lance's Prayers

Almost every night when I help Lance say his prayer before bed, he'll change his voice once or twice right in the middle.  He has his normal voice which he starts with, and then sometimes his voice gets really high and soft like he's talking to a baby.  His most common voice change is an attempt at growling the words like a tiger.  You would just have to hear his impression, it's so funny!  It is hard not to laugh when I'm telling him to ask for help that the kids can be nice and do what mom and dad say and he starts growling the words as if to say 'yeah right dad, you wish!'

Jonas Brothers Legos

Kayla got to go to the Stadium of Fire and see the Jonas Brothers on the 4th of July while in Utah with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson.  She made a wish and she couldn't tell us what the wish was.  "But if I get to kiss the Jonas Brothers, then I can tell you that my wish came true."  After she got back from Utah, Lisa asked her "Hey Kayla, do you still like the Jonas Brothers?"  She said "They're not even real size!  They're just the size of lego people!"  Lisa had to explain that it's just because she was sitting so far away, as Kayla kept saying, "No really, I saw them, they're just like Lego people!"

What the Stomach Wants

When Garrett was too full to finish his dinner he said, "I'm full, my stomach isn't asking for anything."  Then when Tycen was asking to watch cartoons Garrett said, "My stomach is asking to watch TV!"

Kids make us DO the craziest things...

I got home from Girls Camp on Saturday afternoon, and I hadn't seen the kids for a week, since we left them in UT with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson. When I got home, they were all at Costco, so I hurried and showered and got ready to say Hi to them. When they pulled in, I ran out and started unbuckling kids and giving them hugs and kisses, then our neighbors were outside, so we went over there for a few minutes, and then on the way back to our house, Quinn said, "Hello?! Welcome Home!" I had totally forgotten to hug Quinn! I just laughed and said, "Oh, Quinn... I love you too!" Oops.

Which Ball Is Different?

Kayla was drawing some circles on her paper today and then handed it to me and asked "Which ball is different?"  I hardly had a chance to look at them, (although they all looked the same to me), before she took it back and said, "Wait a minute.  I'll give you a hint."  She drew something on the paper, and when she gave it back, there was an arrow pointong to one of the circles!

Man Pajamas

Last night Tycen said "Mom, we need to talk."  He took her hand and walked her over to the couch to sit.  He then said "You've got to stop buying me clothes, it's too embarrasing!  I am so embarrased to have a dinosaur on the front of my shirt.  I'm almost 7, I need man pajamas!  After my birthday, I don't want anything with trucks or dinosaurs or anything.  I just want like blue pants with a white shirt and nothing on it."

Lance is... Human?

Talking one day with the kids about names for Lance before he was born, Kayla kept saying things like Table, Window, Chair, and other things she could see.  Lisa told her that those were all things, and we should probably name him a person name.  After a minute of thinking, she very excitedly said "We could name him Human!"

Wrinkles in the Brain

I had just told Kayla about how you can dry out grapes to make rasins, and she told me that she learned that when you learn something new, you get a wrinkle in your brain. I asked her if me telling her about grapes and rasins made a new wrinkle, and she said she had three. I was curious what three things she learned from that, and she said "I have one wrinkle for hula-hooping, one for jump-roping, and one for what I just told you."

Kayla Likes To Give Mom Cramps

Kayla had really been wanting to make breakfast in bed for Lisa, but we told her it would have to be on a day I was home to help her.  A few Saturdays ago she reminded me about it, and Lisa was still in bed so I let Kayla help me make crepes to take up to her.  I was actually excited to surprise her as well and make something nicer for her than just cereal or toast.  During the process, we threw a couple away that were a little too done, but we made it look really nice, and took it up to Lisa in bed.  Lisa was telling Kayla how excited she was, and Kayla said that she made the breakfast for her.  I mentioned that I helped, and Kayla said "Yeah, dad poured the juice!"

Now when Kayla asks if she can do it again, she can't remember what their called, so she asks, "Can we give mom cramps in bed again?"

Ok, I guess she can take the credit.  I'm glad she's not going around telling people that her dad gave her mom cramps in bed!

Colorful Mind

The kids love to see what color you can see when you put punch in their colored plastic cups.  Kayla started asking about colors after seeing a rainbow on our drive to Enumclaw for Father's day.  She wanted to know what color you get if you mix green and blue.  I told her probably teal or aqua.  Then she said, "I just mixed white with them."  I was asking her what she was talking about, and she told me she just mixed white with the green and blue in her head to make it lighter so you wouldn't have to shine a light on it to make it lighter. (Crazy little artist.)

The other day Kayla was coloring a picture and getting frustrated.  She was just sitting there staring at it for a minute, and when Lisa asked her if she was done she said, "I just colored this really cool picture in my head, but I can't color what's in my head on this paper!"

You almost passed out?

We were telling the kids they were going to have a babysitter tonight, and they were all excited about the options of things we said they could do while we were gone.  Lisa said they could probably watch a movie as she started to get out the popcorn. Tycen's eyes got wide and his mouth dropped open, then after a second he said, "I'm so excited... I almost fell asleep for a minute!"

The Shopping Dance

Go To Your Room Dad!

I was tickling Lance and knocking him down on the couch, playing with him as well as keeping him from climbing over the arm onto the chair.  He was laughing at first, but then started to get frustrated that I wouldn't let him climb over.  He got back up on his knees and gave me a mean look while his arm shot out and he pointed to the stairs as if to send me to my room.  I tried getting him to do it again for a picture, but he didn't do the face.

No, you can't get out of bed!

Tycen is always trying to get away with staying up at night, or finding reasons to get out of bed. I'm sure he thinks that we don't know something is up when he gets up for the fourth time of going to the bathroom after we put him to bed. Tonight Lisa was telling him goodnight after tucking them in, and Tycen, as he was laying there in bed said, "Mom, when I lay down, my scratch... I don't really know where it is, but when I lay down it really hurts."

A - B - C-Section

Tycen was asking about getting the baby out and said "Mom, if you don't have to cut your tummy open to get the baby out, then how do you get it out? Sophie's mom just had a baby and they didn't cut her tummy open, so how did they get it out? And how do you get it in, do you have to cut your tummy open to put the baby in?"

How do I look like my dad?

Tycen is sure getting to that age isn't he? He recently said to Lisa, "Mom, if we grow inside the mom, then why do people say we look like our dad?"

Why wear clothes?

Tycen is such a smart kid! One time he was talking to Lisa and said "Mom, there are only two choices right? Penis or no penis right?" When Lisa confirmed, he asked, "So why do we wear clothes if we already know what everyone has?"

The Sleeping Monster

It was only 86° in our house last night

Lance was very hot today. Lisa would hug him, and he would hug her back for a second and then push her away and say "Stop!" She would try to hold him, and he would let her for a second and then push her away and say "Stop!" After a couple times of him doing this, Lisa asked him what was wrong, and he said, "Hot!"

Evil Little Games

Tycen was complaining about Garrett hitting him, which I know was just Garrett's way of playing. I called him down and tried telling him that it's ok to play rough sometimes, but you shouldn't ever hit because that just hurts people, and it isn't playing. He said "But dad, we were just playing a game that is evil!"

Lisa said that he told her earlier that he was going to be evil for a minute, but he was still a nice boy, he was just going to be evil. He then jumped around acting like a ninja fighting bad guys for a little bit. When he was done, he told her he was done being evil and he was a good boy again.
